Booker T

Booker T

The 90s was my favorite era of professional wrestling (the late 80s a close second).  The era of the WCW vs. WWF Monday night wars, ECW, a booming independent scene, and a prominent wrestling scene in Japan and Mexico.  I've always wanted to do more 90s related wrestling themes (did an ECW theme years ago and plan to revisit it) and I figured I'd get it started with the former 5x world champion, Booker T.

Younger fans probably know Booker more from his WWE run in the early 2000s as well as his TNA run, but I remember watching him every week in WCW during the 90s.  In fact, I'd go back before that when he and his brother Stevie Ray were known as The Ebony Experience in a Texas based promotion called Global Wrestling.

My idea was to do a sneaker that represented both the 90s WCW era of Booker T as well as the WWE & TNA eras.  One thing I definitely wanted to incorporate is the flame design worn by him and his brother in WCW both during his solo run and their run as Harlem Heat, one of the best tag teams in wrestling during that period.

Next was deciding on the base shoe.  For that, I went with the Air Jordan 1 "Triple White":

And here is the finished product:

As you can see, I incorporated the flame design and the words "Harlem Heat" on the back of the shoes along with Booker's "Can you dig it" catchphrase.

On the front toes, I added Booker's more recent/current look:

And on the tongue tags, I went with both the classic and modern ring attire.  His WCW ring attire on the left tag, and his WWE & TNA ring attire on the right:

I plan for this to be the first of many retro wrestling themes I create, as I have many more in mind that I want to make, some of which are ideas that I conceptualized years ago.

I will probably be adding these to the shop section eventually.  In the meantime, if you are interested in a pair, send a message through the form on the contact page or email directly at ecentrik@yahoo.com.
